Paul Sawyer is a Kindergarten through twelfth grade music teacher, freelance composer, flutist, singer, guitarist and DJ.  Mr. Sawyer has spent the past thirty-three years making music.  Twenty-six of those years he has been teaching music, with fifteen spent teaching in public schools. Currently, he is working for the Agawam Public School District as an elementary general music teacher and also, had a busy musical career outside of public-school teaching with his multiple musical interests.

As a music teacher, Paul Sawyer has had the pleasure of teaching every grade from pre k through twelfth grade. Currently he works for two schools in Agawam as a general music teacher.  He has taught high school and middle school and is still teaching and directing in the Agawam Summer band program.  He has also served as the assistant High School band director and Jazz band director.

Mr. Sawyer enjoys working alongside other composers in the region on projects with his main focus on composing music for children to sing.  He strives to compose children’s music that is both fun to sing as a kid and enjoyable to listen to as an adult.  He also always tries to use music as a tool for education.  His songs frequently include topics about science, history or social emotional learning.

As a flutist, Paul plays regularly in local churches, with pianist for special events and as a frequent guest with different ensembles.  Paul enjoys playing both classical and modern music and specializes in modern extended flute techniques. One of his greatest passions is his private flute studio he instructs. The chance to work one on one to shape and guide the future of music is one of the greatest honors in his life. He has also been a lead singer and guitarist with several groups in the past and still works as a guest with local groups.

As an open source DJ he enjoys the challenge and variety of taking on gigs from weddings and anniversaries to DJing sets for local clubs.  There are very few styles of music he has not had a chance to work with. It is also through this work that he does much of his charity work, such as DJing events for the Knights of Columbus, American Cancer Society, and other charity and community groups.

Outside of music, Paul is a passionate woodworker, building furniture and renovating homes.  He also loves landscaping and working with natural landscapes to highlight what nature has already created.  But at the end of the day his greatest joy in life is spending time with his family, his daughter Emerson, son Lincoln and wife Jennifer.
